Job Description

Would you like to change lives by ensuring out-of-school time care is an amazing experience for children and families? YMCA Youth Leaders help kids learn self-reliance and collaboration skills along with appropriate development of attitudes and practices that build character and leadership.

Leaders will provide constructive, responsible leadership and guidance for children ages 5-12. Youth Leaders will assist children with virtual learning in the areas of technology set-up, homework assistance and student support, along with planning and implementing enrichment activities for participants that help build the skills needed to be successful.

In addition, Leaders will help organize activities including but not limited to the following: STEM; Arts-n-Humanities, physical activities and other youth related . This position must perform duties in accordance with the policies, goals, mission, values and objectives established by the Gallatin Valley YMCA, Branch Strategic Plan, and Safety Protocols including COVID-19. Emphasis will be placed, program knowledge, participant/staff safety, and communication with members and staff.

1. Safely supervises children with a creative, fun, positive attitude.

2. Implements program activities and curriculum that is relevant, developmentally appropriate, addresses learning components and is consistent with YMCA values.

3. Creates a positive rapport and shared interest with all youth; models relationship-building skills in all interactions.

4. Follows YMCA policies and procedures, including those related to COVID-19, medical and disciplinary situations, child abuse prevention, and emergencies.

5. Supports student academic success through virtual delivery models & online homework assignments as required by their school.

6. Provides and welcomes ongoing dialogue with parents and caregivers about their child’s needs and progress; connects families to the Y.

7. Supports youth social & emotional well-being through mentorship and listening.

8. Discusses and reports any concerns to the Program Director.

9. Adheres to program standards including safety and cleanliness standards.

10. Attends staff meetings and trainings.

11. Is agile and flexible helping accommodate organizational and child needs.

12. Performs other duties as assigned.

Work Day Schedule

7:30am-4:30pm (with some flexibility if needed)


• At least 18 years of age.
• High school graduate or equivalent; one year or more of college preferred.
• Minimum one year experience working with school-age children in a group setting.
• Excellent verbal/written communication skills
• Have experience with Microsoft Office software, including Word, Excel, and Power Point, as well as internet technology platforms such as Google Classroom, Zoom & Canvas
• Experience preferred in one or more of the following areas: outdoor living, archery, camping, songs/music, skits, sports, aquatics, recreational games, etc…
CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications prior to start date.

Physical Demands

Ability to plan, lead and participate in a range of activities in a variety of outdoor/indoor settings.


$12.00-$15.50 per hour
